지역항공 모빌리티 기업 섬에어(대표 최용덕)는 4월 3일 ‘제3차 한-프랑스 경제계 미래대화’ 행사 내 MOU 체결식에서 프랑스 항공기 제조사 ATR과 신조기 구매 계약을 체결했다.

이번 계약은 지역항공사업 분야에서 한·프랑스 간 실질적 협력의 청사진을 제시했으며, 섬에어는 ATR 72-600 기종을 도입해 울릉도, 백령도, 흑산도 등 섬 공항을 포함한 전국 단거리 노선 운항에 활용할 계획이다.

최용덕 섬에어 대표는 “김포-사천 노선 개시를 시작으로 태백산맥을 넘어 영남과 호남 지방공항을 잇고, 인천공항과 지방공항을 연결하는 스포크 네트워크 확장을 통해 대한민국 대표 지역항공사로 성장하겠다”고 밝혔다.

현재 섬에어는 김포-사천 정기노선 운영 중이며, 향후 김포-울산, 사천-제주 등 노선을 지속 확대하여 지역 간 항공 인프라 공백 해소에 앞장설 계획이다.
 
On April 3, SumAir (CEO Choi Yong-deok), a regional air mobility company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and a new aircraft purchase agreement with French aircraft manufacturer ATR during the MOU signing ceremony at the 3rd Korea-France Future Economic Dialogue.

This agreement represents a practical blueprint for Korea-France cooperation in the regional aviation sector. SumAir plans to introduce ATR’s ATR 72-600 aircraft, optimized for short-haul routes, to operate flights including island airports such as Ulleungdo, Baengnyeongdo, and Heuksando.

CEO Choi stated, “Starting with the Gimpo-Sacheon route, we aim to connect regional airports across Yeongnam and Honam beyond the Taebaek Mountains, and expand a spoke network linking Incheon Airport and local airports. We are committed to establishing SomAir as a leading regional airline in Korea.”

Currently, SumAir operates regular services on the Gimpo-Sacheon route and plans to continuously expand routes including Gimpo-Ulsan and Sacheon-Jeju, playing a vital role in bridging gaps in domestic air infrastructure and revitalizing regional airports.
